Happy (belated) Coming Out Day!

Yesterday it was Coming Out Day! Due to some problems (better known as school and mental health) we didn’t write something yet, but of course this day has to be celebrated. That’s why we’ll share our favourite Instagram posts about Coming Out Day so you can learn, celebrate and feel valid 🙂

Happy #NationalComingOutDay! 💖 ⠀ Keep swiping for some coming out advice. Some additional thoughts below! ⠀ ✨ There is no right way to come out. I know that this moment feels important, and it is, but it doesn't have to be flashy or glamorous. Some of the most incredible coming out stories are simple. No matter how you deliver it, or how it's received, your coming out story is exceptional. ✨ Don't let anyone pressure you into coming out. Just because today is Coming Out Day, does not mean you are obligated to come out. Come out when you are ready. ✨ Coming out and being outed are NOT the same. Head over to @lgbt to read a story from @krystian_gabrielle on her experience being outed, and check out @lgbtq for advice on how to react when a loved one comes out to you. ✨ Did we miss anything? Share some coming out advice in the comments below, and we'll pin our favorites! ⠀ 🎨 and words by @iamraynbow. ⠀ No matter what, you are loved and you are valid. You have a community that celebrates you whether you are out or not. Remember that. 🌈 ⠀ Image description: These images outline some advice for folks wondering how/if they should come out. The first image is an illustration with text that reads, "So you want to come out. Some advice." A rainbow in colors the queer Pride flag (light blue, blue, green, white, yellow, pink, and light pink) stretch across the image. The next 6 images feature advice on coming out over a gradient of the same colors. ✨How to react when a loved one comes out✨ #NationalComingOutDay ⠀ 🎨 by @hellomynameiswednesday. ⠀ 💙 Listen. This means so much to them. They may have rehearsed this moment over and over in their mind. It is vital that they feel heard. 💚 Lean back. THIS MOMENT IS NOT ABOUT YOU. It's not a time to bombard them with unwelcome questions, lay blame, or speculate how you "should have known." Do not wonder why they haven't told you until now. They are telling you now, that is enough. 🤍 Let them lead. If they offer to answer questions, start joking or laugh, by all means join in. If they start getting uncomfortable, move on. If you make a mistake, or say something you regret — that's okay — apologize right away and move on. 💛 Learn. This is an opportunity for you to learn more about your loved one. It is not an opportunity to postulate or get on your soapbox. Do not, under any circumstances, suggest that they need therapy unless that is something they explicitly request. 💖 Love. What they need to know is that you will always love them, no matter what. Show them. I promise you, they will never forget it. ⠀ Image description: This is an illustration by artist/writer Wednesday Holmes (pronouns they/them). The first slide reads, "How to react when a loved one comes out." The text is written in alternating pastel colors on a light background. In the next image, 2 characters are pictured on a green background. The one on the right wears a blue sweater under pink overalls. The other wears a black-and-white sweater and blue pants. They are quoted saying, "I have something I need to tell you." In the next image, the say, "I am trans and I would like for you to use they/them pronouns when you refer to me." In the final image, the other one hugs them enthusiastically saying, "Thank you for telling me! Of course, I can! All I want is for you to be comfortable and happy! I love you!" ⠀ #lgbtq #lgbt #pride #queer #lgbtqia #comingout #comingoutday #comingoutstory #trans #transpride #gay #gaypride #lesbian #lesbianpride #nonbinary #nonbinarypride #enby #enbypride #genderqueer #pansexual #asexual #bipride #bisexual #lovewins #loveislove #loveislove🌈 #lovewins🌈 #pride🌈 #lgbtq🌈
